Who is this Bill Ayers that McCain speaks so ominously about? The former Weatherman, William Ayers, now holds the position of distinguished professor of education at the University of Illinois-Chicago. Ayers was never convicted of a crime, but he has admitted being part of the group that was radically against the VietNam War. Obama was a child in Hawaii when this stuff happened. He ahd no connection whatsoever to the crimes involved.
Both Obama and Ayers were members of the board of an anti-poverty group, the Woods Fund of Chicago, between 1999 and 2002. In addition, Ayers contributed $200 to Obama's re-election fund to the Illinois State Senate in April 2001, as reported here. They lived within a few blocks of each other in the Hyde Park section of Chicago, but Ayers is not a close friend or adviser to Obama, and has no ties to the Obama campaign at all. So it is all guilt by tenous association.
But two can play this sordid game of dragging up the past on associations. If you are going to hold a man as evil still after nearly forty years, then what about Cindy McCain? Yes, John McCain lives in the same house with a former drug addict and a person who stole drugs from a medical charity.
Who Really is Cindy McCain? Yes, we know she is and heiress to her father's stake in Hensley & Co. of Phoenix, a mega-beer distributorship, and that she is an executive whose worth exceeds $100 million. Her beer earnings have afforded the GOP presidential nominee a wealthy lifestyle with a private jet and at least ten homes at his disposal, and eleven cars, and her connections helped him launch his political career.
Husband John cannot remember it, but by the last count, Cindy McCain owns ten homes, including an apartment near Washington DC; two condominiums in Coronado, near San Diego as well as the one her father left her in La Jolla. She lives in a $4.7m pad on top of one of Phoenix's fanciest new luxury towers. She also owns holiday homes in the countryside near Sedona, Arizona. Her vast wealth and many homes are the way she grew up.
The Hensleys have long been members of the Phoenix elite. (That’s right, elite, as in what Barack Obama is actually not). She grew up in a rambling low-slung house with a fiberglass Clydesdale horse – Anheuser Busch's trademark – plonked in the front garden. The only child of her parents' second marriages, Cindy's mother, Marguerite "Smitty" Hensley, kept a tight rein on her daughter while her father lavished her with gifts. So you can be sure that she can really feel your pain, middle class and poor America! NOT!
But there is more to the story of Cindy “Beer Barbie” McCain that many seem to have forgotten.
Back in 1989, following two back surgeries, Cindy McCain became addicted to the painkillers Vicodin and Percocet. To keep up with her daily need of 10 to 15 pills, she used other people’s names for prescriptions and stole drugs from the American Voluntary Medical Team, a mobile surgical unit she’d begun in 1988 to provide emergency medical services around the world.
A 1993 DEA audit of the amount of painkillers her charity had obtained quickly uncovered her thefts. She avoided prosecution for those crimes through an agreement with the Justice Department in which she submitted to drug testing, paid a fine, performed community service in a soup kitchen, and joined Narcotics Anonymous. She also closed her medical charity.
Cindy McCain is Senator McCain’s second wife. His infidelities put strain on his first marriage, and he was divorced from Carol McCain, his wife of 15 years, in 1980. (Carol McCain not only waited for five and a half years for her husband to return from Vietnam, but she also endured a horrific automobile accident during that period which broke both her legs and one arm and ruptured her spleen. She nearly lost her left leg, and surgeries left her four inches shorter than she was before her accident. The woman John McCain returned to was far different in appearance from the beautiful former model he’d left behind.)
Cindy Lou Hensley and John McCain began dating in 1979. But the Wall Street Journal states: “At the time, Sen. McCain was separated from his first wife,” numerous other sources assert he was still living with Carol McCain when he began seeing his future wife, Cindy. John and Cindy wed in 1980, one month after his divorce from Carol became final. [From snopes.com: Cindy McCain]
