McCain Approves More Lies -- Takes Off Another Set of Dirty, Truthless Gloves -- Smears Obama

Here come the lies again! The Republican Propaganda machine is cranking up its slurs of Senator Barack Obama, and, of course, the truth does not matter. Now that wonderful smiling and winking liar Sarah Palin has accused the Democratic presidential candidate, Barack Obama, of associating with terrorists. Give me a break!

Dragging up old slurs that have already proved to be erroneous, Palin said Obama had been "palling around" with an ex-member of US-based militant group Weather Underground named Bill Ayers, which opposed the Vietnam War in the 1960s. The truth is that Mr. Obama once served on a charity board with a member of the group, who is now a reputable college professor all these years later, but Obama has denounced the groups militant activities during the Viet Nam war. CNN found not close friendship or ties between Obama and Ayers, just a small link for working on the same charity.

This is typical Republican gutter politics. What is clear is that John McCain and Sarah Palin would rather spend their time tearing down Barack Obama than laying out a plan to build up our economy. But more cheap shots are sure to come in the next month. Commentators say Palin's attack forms part of a broader Republican strategy to attack Senator Obama's character by trying to link him with people he has known or met. It is a trashy strategy.

Speaking to lemming-ostrich supporters in Colorado and later in a Los Angeles suburb, Pit Bull Palin said the time had come to take the gloves off. Palin described Senator Obama as someone who saw the US "as being so imperfect... he is palling around with terrorists who would target their own country". The crazy thing is the whole charge is so ludicrous. Obama was a young child when Weather Underground was active, and it has not been active in many years. It is another attempt at guilt by association, and the association is very limited to being on the same charity board.

And of course, the woman casting stones is married to a former member of a party in Alaska that was dedicated to seceding from the United States. But she is the super patriot here – at least, that is what her script says.

Now comes the word in the press that the McCain campaign is going to take the “gloves off.” Did they ever have gloves on? After all the dirt and mud they have already thrown, after all the smears and jeers, how can they sink any lower?

If you have any hope for the future of America, go to Obama’s website – www.barackobama.com -- and contribute to his campaign right now. He will need all hands on deck to defeat the McCainanite lies. Even twenty dollars will help Obama and Biden fight for the truth.

Can you remember the promise that “Mr. Flip-Flop” McCain made at the beginning of the year, that he would "raise the level of political dialogue in America." McCain pledged then that he would "treat my opponents with respect and demand that they treat me with respect."

Instead, with Rove protégé Steve Schmidt at the helm, McCain has turned the campaign into a torrent of debasing negativity, misrepresenting Barack Obama's positions on everything from sex education for kindergarteners to middle-class taxes. As Rolling Stone magazine points out, in September, in one of his most blatant embraces of Rove-like tactics, McCain hired Tucker Eskew — one of Rove's campaign operatives who smeared John McCain and his family during the 2000 campaign in South Carolina. Where are your principles, John?

As Tim Dickinson tells in Rolling Stone, throughout the campaign this year, McCain has tried to make the contest about honor and character. His own writing gives us the standard by which he should be judged. "Always telling the truth in a political campaign," he writes in Worth the Fighting For, "is a great test of character." He adds: "Patriotism that only serves and never risks one's self-interest isn't patriotism at all. It's selfishness. That's a lesson worth relearning from time to time." It's a lesson, it would appear, that the candidate himself could stand to relearn.

"I'm sure John McCain loves his country," Dickinson quotes Richard Clarke, the former counter-terrorism czar under Bush. "But loving your country and lying to the American people are apparently not inconsistent in his view."

Hence the lies come full torrent again, wiht all the talking points surrogates, (often either carefully picked blonde women or black men), pressing the offensive with crafted lies. It should remind thinking Americans of the dirty politcal past -- of the swift-boating of a real war hero, and the debasing of a future Nobel Prize winner. This is how the Republicans of our century roll over people. They lie.

Well, we have had enough lies with Bush-Cheney, America. Do not give the Republicans four more years to lie to us and run this country deeper into the ditch. Fight for the soul of America. Battle for the truth.
