John McCain's is now over 72 years old. If elected, he'd be the oldest president ever inaugurated. And after months of slamming Barack Obama for "inexperience," here's who John McCain has chosen to be one heartbeat away from the presidency: a right-wing extreme religious conservative with no foreign policy experience, who until recently was a council person and mayor of a town of less than 9,000 people.
Palin is not qualifed to be President of the United States. And do not try the lie that she is more qualifed than Senator Barack Obama. Obama has been a standout member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee the past four years, and has proved his knowledge in debate after debate and one of the most contested primary campaigns in American history. Before he came to the United States Senate, he was a state Senator from one of the largest cities in the United States, Chicago, in one of our largest states, Illinois.
Just on the key qualification of education alone, there is no comparison. Obama's achievement dwarfs Palin.
In 1984, Governor Palin won the Miss Wasilla beauty contest (playing the flute and winning the "Miss Congeniality" award as well), then finished second in the Miss Alaska pageant, at which she won a college scholarship. Palin attended Hawaii Pacific College -- now known as Hawaii Pacific University -- in Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1982 for a semester, where she majored in Business Administration, and transferred in 1983 to North Idaho College. In 1987, Palin received a Bachelor of Science degree in communications-journalism from the University of Idaho, where she also minored in political science.
Senator Obama then attended Occidental College, a fine liberal arts college in Los Angeles from 1979 to 1981. He admittedly was a bit of a party animal there. He apparently got a bit more serious his sophomore year and transferred to Columbia University in New York City for his junior and senior years, graduating from Columbia in 1983. After graduation, Obama worked in New York in a corporate position for a year, then a nonprofit position for another year before making the fateful decision to move to Chicago in 1985. He worked from 1985 to 1988 as a director of the "Developing Communities Project" a nonprofit organization that he ran, and did noble work in the South Side of Chicago. Then, from 1988 to 1991 Obama attended Harvard Law School, graduating at the top of his class, magna cum laude, and heewas editor of the prestigious Harvard Law Review.
There is no comparison in education. Obama is by far the most accomplished. He also beats out McCain, who was near the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy.
Let us hope that Americans look closely at just who realyy is this right wing darling, Sarah Palin?
Here’s some basic background:
·She was elected Alaska’s governor a little over a year and a half ago. Her previous office was mayor of Wasilla, a small town outside Anchorage. She has no foreign policy experience.
Palin is strongly anti-choice, opposing abortion even in the case of rape or incest.
·She supported right-wing extremist Pat Buchanan for president in 2000.
Like the Bush administration, Palin is anti-science. She doesn’t think humans are the cause of climate change.
· She’s solidly in line with John McCain’s “Big Oil first” energy policy. She’s pushed hard for more oil drilling and says renewables won’t be ready for years. She also sued the Bush administration for listing polar bears as an endangered species—she was worried it would interfere with more oil drilling in Alaska. She is environmentally INSENSITIVE.
· How closely did John McCain vet this choice? He met Sarah Palin once at a meeting. They spoke a second time, a week before the convention, when he called her about being vice-president. Then he offered her the position. And after a convention tailored to make her the centerpiece, she is riding a wave of false popularity. Let us hope that the hot air balloon will come to earth before election day!
·The truth is that this woman that they call Sarah Barracuda is VERY, VERY conservative, and far from the mainstream of America. She may claim to be a hunter and fisherwoman, but she opposes efforts to save the environment again and again. She ran on ethics reform, but is currently under investigation for several charges involving hiring and firing of state officials. She has NO experience beyond Juneau, Alaska.
· Will American voters stupidly place this woman picked by Republican Party bosses to be a heartbeat away from a possible 72 year old president? She’s vehemently anti-choice and does not care about protecting our natural resources, even though she has worked as a fisherman. Governor Palin is a staunch anti-choice religious conservative, who makes George Bush seem like a choir boy on these issues. She’s a global warming denier who shares John McCain’s commitment to Big Oil. And she’s dramatically inexperienced, and gets by on well-written speeches, a smile and designer glasses.
In picking Sarah Palin, John McCain has made the extreme religious right very happy. And he has made a very dangerous decision for our country.
